WHITEWATER KAYAK INN

The Whitewater Kayak Inn is situated beside the Tibiao River at the foothills of Mount Madja-as, the highest mountain on Panay. Comprised of only seven nipa & crushed bamboo huts proudly hand-built by the local carpenters in May 1997, the retreat is surrounded by hanging rice terraces and fruit trees. A special feature of the huts is the absence of nails and other modern gadgets except for a face mirror, The rushing rapids that challenge the kayaker by day lull one to a sound sleep at night. The rustic setting is typical of a mountain village; drinking and bathing water is piped in from a nearby spring with bamboo poles, diet consists of abundant fresh fish, fruits and vegetables harvested from the garden, native coffee from the mountain side, and tuba (coconut wine) freshley-obtained from the coconut trees, No electricity yet, but with the luxury of a toilet cum bathroom designed with bamboo & river rocks. Hot bath is courtesy of a "kawa", a huge, heavy cost iroh dish heated with discarded bamboo, or a renewable and plentiful source.
