Day 1 Depart USA Overnight transatlantic flight to Rome.
Day 2 Arrive Rome (2) We transfer you to the hotel on your arrival at Rome Airport. Meet your Tour Director and fellow traveling companions later this afternoon. This evening, why not take a stroll around this exciting city?
Day 3 Rome sightseeing Our morning sightseeing tour shows us the Forum, Colosseum and Piazza Venezia, as well as St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City. Later, free time to perhaps shop or take an excursion to the Villa d'Este Gardens and fountains at Tivoli. Tonight, why not enjoy dinner in a local trattoria in the ancient Trastevere District?
Day 4 Rome - Venice (Monastier) (2) This morning we travel through the Latium past hilltop towns such as Orte and Orvieto into the beautiful Tuscan hills. Then we climb the Apennine Mountains, and continue via Bologna across the Venetian plains to magical Venice for a relaxing two night stay. This evening, after dinner at our hotel, a gondola serenade would be hard to resist!
Day 5 Venice sightseeing & at leisure We marvel at this city on our cruise to St. Mark's Square past Palladian churches and ornate palazzos. We see the Bridge of Sighs, Doges' Palace and the Basilica of St. Mark, before seeing a demonstration of Murano glass-blowing. Then enjoy some time at leisure to perhaps take a trip out into the Lagoon and enjoy a fresh seafood lunch!
Day 6 Venice (Monastier) - Verona - Florence (2) Today it's a short drive to the city of Verona where we see Juliet's balcony and admire the Roman arena. Time to explore before we continue our journey via Mantova and Modena into the fertile agricultural region of Emilia Romagna. Then into Tuscany, we arrive at Florence, jewel of Renaissance, on the Arno River. Tonight, dinner is at our hotel.
Day 7 Florence sightseeing & at leisure Morning sightseeing on foot shows us the Baptistry, the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Giotto's Bell Tower, the Piazza Signoria and the Basilica of Santa Croce. We enjoy a demonstration of fine Florentine leatherwork, before free time to further explore or shop for bargains in leather goods and gold!
Day 8 Florence - Assisi - Rome This morning after breakfast, we drive past Chianti vineyards and head into the peaceful province of the Umbria. We see Trasimeno Lake on our way into the Apennine Hills past Perugia reaching Assisi - home of St. Francis. Here we visit the Basilica and see the tomb of the much-loved saint, as well as the Giotto frescoes, and visit the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels. Next, we return to Rome, the 'Eternal City'. This evening, why not throw a coin in the Trevi Fountain to ensure your safe return one day?
Day 9 Rome - USA This morning after breakfast, it's 'arrivederci Roma' as you transfer to the airport for your return flight to the USA.
